Lynda is a 52 year old wife and mother of two daughters. In August 2009 Lynda started to notice some unusual symptoms of swelling and discoloration on one of her breast.   She was seen by many doctors including a regular GP, Woman’s Center Breast Specialist, a dermatologist and finally a pathologist. For two months she was told many different things from many doctors who thought  she was suffering from a case of shingles, allergies, a clogged duct in her breast to a possibility of skin cancer or breast infection.  After a mammogram and ultrasound were done and the results came back normal and a round of antibiotics were prescribed and had no affect a biopsy was finally ordered.  Several days later she was contacted by the pathologist, Dr. Whitney High of the Anschutz Cancer Center.  On October 15 2009 he thoroughly explained the results of the biopsy, including color images of the slide and gave  his assessment that Lynda is a victim of Stage 3 Inflammatory Breast Cancer. It is the rarest and most aggressive form of breast cancer.  It affects between 1-4 % of breast cancer patients. Lynda started chemotherapy treatment on 10/28/2009 and will be seen every two weeks for chemo treatments at the Anshutz Cancer Center for 6 months.  After the 6 months of chemo surgery will be scheduled for a mastectomy.  After recovery radiation treatments will begin every day for 6 weeks.  After this is completed the doctors will evaluate how her treatments went  and go from there.
